My parents researched their respective family histories for many years, and have, in some lines, managed to trace their families back almost to the time of the Norman conquest. This makes the Shaw side of the family look very bare! However, time permitting, I may be able to remedy this - at least partly. Brigham Young University

This library is now housed at the Family Search Digital Library

Family History Online

Publishes on-line records compiled by Family History Societies. Search over 66 million records including parish registers, memorial inscriptions, censuses, poor law documents and others. Registration is required, but searching the index is free. Further information requires payment.

Family History Society of Cheshire

A useful resource for finding out about places in Cheshire, including areas which are no longer part of the County. It also offers membership, meetings, etc.

Family Relatives

Registration required. Many records are free, but others need to be paid for on a subscription basis.

Family Tree Magazine

UK monthly magazine for genealogists.

Find a Grave

Search by name or location. Mostly in the US, but does include some UK memorials.

Parish Registers (not yet active).

The Genealogist

Subscription site. Births, marriages and deaths index, Census indexes and transcripts, Parish records indexes, Directories, Landowner records, Knights of England.

Genealogy Links

Genes Reunited

Claims to be the UK's largest family tree and genealogy website. Mostly free, but registration is required. You will need to pay to contact other members and view their trees.

GenForum

A site for researchers to post messages and requests for information. There is a surnames message board and a several regional message boards, including United Kingdom.

Historical Directories

Leicester University's archive of old Trade Directories. Search, browse and download. Requires Javascript.

IGI Family Search

Free, but requires login

IGI searches by Batch number

Makes some searches easier.

Irish Family History Foundation

Claims to be the largest provider of professional family history research services in Ireland. Includes County Centres, sources, news, and maps.
